DR. DEBORAH KELLEY IN LIVE BROADCASTS BY IMMERSION PRESENTS LIFE AT THE
EXTREMES
Going into the Abyss, Viewers Take Part in Finding Brand-new Creatures,
Making Technological History with Chief Scientist, Who is Doing Virtual
Discovery As Well
July 28 -- At 24 aquariums, museums, science centers and school
districts in the U.S. and Mexico, children and adults are getting the
unique opportunity to see creatures of the abyss-- animals and
microbial organisms that no one has ever seen before-- during Immersion
Presents Life at the Extremes. These groups, along with 20 Boys &
Girls Clubs of America, are watching Immersion Present’s 40 live
broadcasts from Dr. Robert Ballard and Dr. Deborah Kelley’s expedition
to the eerie and unique Lost City hydrothermal vent fields 2,100 feet
below sea on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. The 30-minute live broadcasts air
four times a day at Immersion Presents sites through August 1.
Many will rebroadcast them this fall so that students not in
after-school programs can see these exciting adventures. |

OCEAN EXPEDITION TO ‘LOST CITY’ USES ADVANCED COMMUNICATIONS TO LINK LAND, SEA-BASED EXPLORERS
A precedent-setting ocean expedition will use “telepresence” to connect
Dr. Robert Ballard at sea with Chief Scientist Dr. Debbie Kelley ashore
as they explore the unique Lost City hydrothermal vents. The July
23 through August 1 mission is financially supported and coordinated by
NOAA, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
